The New 2019 VW Jetta: Goes up in Scale and Down in Costs

The popular 2019 Volkswagen Jetta has been completely redesigned. It goes up in comfort and space, and down in price. Well, it’s a few hundred dollars less than last year, due primarily to the $80 billion investment in a new manufacturing process called MQB, which reduces the time and cost of building vehicles.

The 2019 Jetta comes in five trim levels—S, SE, R-Line, SEL, and SEL Premium. Every model comes with a turbocharged 1.4-liter engine that generates 147 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque. The 2019 Jetta starts at $18,545 for the base S trim, which is $100 less than the previous model year. The Jetta also comes with a manual or an optional automatic transmission that’s about $200 less.

Since the Jetta is Volkswagen’s top selling vehicle in America, to maintain its competitivene, the company threw everything into the pot. After spending a week in the new Jetta SEL Premium, with an 8-speed automatic transmission, I noticed a major improvement over the previous generation model. Its lighter, more agile, and slightly larger than the previous generation Jetta. Exterior upgrades on the Jetta SEL includes 17-inch alloy wheels, power tilting panoramic sunroof, LED headlights, and rain sensing adjustable wipers. The interior was lined with leather seating and steering wheel, 10-color ambient interior lighting, 6-way heated driver seats and 4-way manual for front passenger. The 2019 Jetta SEL Premium is loaded with comfort conveniences and new safety technology features, including different drive mode selections, frontal collision warning with emergency braking, rear active blind spot monitoring, high beam control, adaptive cruise control, an 8-inch touchscreen display for apps, navigation, radio, CD player with USB and Bluetooth connections. The 2019 Volkswagen Jetta also gets better fuel economy, averaging 40 mpg highway and 30 mpg city. For a compact sedan, it felt more like an upscale Audi. The driving performance was smoother and steering was very responsive. All Volkswagens now have a six-year/72,000-mile warranty called the ‘People First Warranty’. The top-of-line 2019 VW Jetta SEL Premium has a $26,945 price tag.
